Ultrasound

What is it

Ultrasound is a mechanical wave with a high frequency (above 20 kHz), which is beyond the capacity of the human ear, which is why our ears cannot capture its sound. It is able to go beyond the skin and thus show the location of some structures within our body, reflecting on them and returning. The higher the frequency of the ultrasound wave, the deeper it penetrates the skin.

Indications

Aesthetic ultrasound is normally indicated for the treatment of cellulite, breakdown of localized fat and to reduce sagging of the face and neck.

Benefits

Helps break down localized fat and improves skin elasticity.

Contraindications

The aesthetic ultrasound technique is contraindicated in people with cancer, as it can accelerate the growth of tumors. It is also not recommended for people with clotting problems or circulatory diseases.

Treatment is normally not carried out on non-union fractures, endoprostheses, metal implants (including the IUD), heart (as it can alter the contraction of the heart muscle), brain, eyes and ears. Furthermore, it is not done in regions with infection, as it can spread this problem. Pregnant women are also contraindicated, as changes in the amniotic fluid may occur and even generate malformations in the fetus.

How is done

Aesthetic ultrasound is performed using a different machine than ultrasound for medical use, which are usually small and easy to transport. Each technology is indicated for a purpose:

Unfocused aesthetic ultrasound is indicated for the treatment of cellulite, but usually combined with other technologies.
Focused aesthetic ultrasound is divided into two types. High-power ultrasound is capable of penetrating 15 mm into the skin, and is indicated for the treatment of localized fat, as it acts mechanically, compressing and "pulling" the fat cells alternately, which causes them to break. Some devices even use other allied technologies, such as radio frequency and infrared.

Low-frequency focused ultrasound usually penetrates up to 4 mm of the skin, and only works by creating vibrations in the skin cells. When they vibrate, they cause an increase in heat, which causes collagen to be stimulated. This helps reduce sagging skin on the face and neck.

Peridity

It is done weekly or fortnightly, and normally there are 12 sessions in total. After that, maintenance sessions can be done monthly or every three months.

Care

Aesthetic ultrasound is a non-invasive procedure used to help break down localized fat and improve cellulite, while also stimulating circulation and local metabolism. Although it is a safe method, the treated area may be slightly sensitive, and simple care must be taken to optimize the effects and prevent complications.

Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 24 to 48 hours, especially in the treated area, to prevent irritation or blemishes.

Moisturize the skin in the area well, using recommended creams or lotions, as hydration contributes to cell regeneration and maintains skin elasticity.

Drink plenty of water in the hours following the session to help the body eliminate toxins released by the breakdown of fat cells.

Avoid intense physical exercise on the same day to avoid overloading the metabolism of the recently stimulated area.

Avoid using abrasive, acidic or alcohol-based products, especially in the first 24 hours.

Maintain regular sessions and follow professional guidance to ensure progressive and lasting results.
