Gestational Tape

What is it

Gestational Tape is a non-invasive technique that uses elastic bandages (kinesio tapes) applied to the skin of the pregnant woman's belly, back, or legs to provide relief from common pregnancy discomforts. The tape is strategically placed to provide muscle support, improve circulation, and reduce pain without the use of medication.

Indications

Lower back and back pain
Excessive abdominal weight
Feeling of tired legs
Edemas (swelling)
Posture and balance support
Abdominal muscle support

Benefits

Immediate relief from pain and discomfort
Improved blood and lymphatic circulation
Feeling of lightness and well-being
Helps with posture and body stability
Safe, drug-free technique
Can be combined with other therapies (such as lymphatic drainage)

Contraindications

Allergy to the tape material
Wounds, infections, or irritations on the local skin
Cases of high-risk pregnancies without medical clearance
Skin diseases or active dermatitis in the area to be applied

How is done

After an individual assessment of the pregnant woman, the professional cleanses the skin and applies the tapes with gentle stretching to specific areas, depending on the reported complaint (such as the lower back or abdomen). The technique respects the anatomy and the progress of the pregnancy, always ensuring comfort and safety. The application is painless and takes about 20 to 30 minutes.

Peridity

It can be done weekly or as needed and as symptoms evolve.
The tape can remain on the skin for 3 to 5 days, depending on adhesion and care.

Care

Avoid excessively wetting the tape (brief showers and drying with a soft towel).
Do not scratch or pull the tape.
Watch for signs of irritation or itching and, if present, remove immediately.
Avoid sun exposure with the tape applied to avoid scarring.

Comments

The technique is safe when applied by a qualified professional. Gestational Tape does not replace medical or physical therapy care, but it is an excellent complement to the well-being of the pregnant woman.
