Silk Threads

What is it?

Silk threads is a facial treatment that promotes shock hydration, leaving the skin instantly soft and deeply hydrated, as it contains silk fibers that contain, in their composition, amino acids and proteins capable of hydrating the deepest layers of the skin, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, thus strengthening the tissues that support the skin.

It is also recommended for preparing the skin before some aggressive procedures, such as electrotherapy or for special occasions such as Bride’s Day, due to its great hydration power.

Benefits

  • Promotes the restructuring of collagen and elastin fibers.
  • Intensely revitalizes the skin.
  • Deep hydration.
  • Skin is firm, luminous and vibrant.

Contraindications

Know the main precautions before opting for this aesthetic procedure.

  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid silk thread treatment due to the lack of studies on its possible impacts on the health of the fetus or baby.
  • Blood Clotting Problems: Individuals with blood clotting disorders or using anticoagulants may be at greater risk of complications, such as excessive bruising or bleeding during the procedure.
  • Active Skin Infections: If there is any active skin infection, such as acne or herpes, it is important to delay treatment until the infection is completely treated to avoid complications or spread.
  • Autoimmune Diseases: People with autoimmune diseases may have an increased risk of complications due to the possible exacerbated inflammatory response to silk threads.
  • Known Allergies: If the patient has a known allergy to any materials used in silk threads, it is essential to avoid treatment to prevent serious allergic reactions.

How is it done?

For dry skin, the procedure begins with a glycolic acid-based soap to prepare the skin and remove the layer of dead cells. Soon after, an exfoliant can be applied, also to remove impurities, which should remain on the skin for around five minutes, before being removed with water.

After this step, a moisturizing cream is applied and then the strands of the silkworm cocoon are applied. The thread disintegrates until it is completely absorbed.

The next step is to apply oil and ionize it. To do this, a device is used with the opposite polarity to that of the product on the skin, which helps to make it absorbable.

Finishing is done with a glycolic acid mask, which helps to remove dead cells and revitalize the skin tone.

You can place an LED mask on top, to enhance the action of the mask underneath.

Frequency

The ideal frequency of silk thread treatment may vary depending on several factors, including individual skin response, treatment goals and the type of silk thread used. Overall, silk thread treatment results can last 12 to 18 months.

However, it is important to keep in mind that the skin’s natural aging process continues after treatment, which can affect appearance over time. To maintain the desired results, some patients choose to undergo a touch-up or a new procedure after this period.

Care

After the silk thread procedure, it is essential to follow specific care to ensure satisfactory results and a smooth recovery. Find out some important guidelines to follow after treatment:

  • Avoid Pressing or Manipulating the Treated Area: In the first few days after the procedure, avoid touching or massaging the area where the silk threads were inserted to avoid excessive movements that could compromise the results.
  • Avoid Sun Exposure and Intense Heat: Protect the treated area from direct sun exposure and avoid sources of intense heat, such as saunas or hot baths, for at least two weeks after treatment to reduce the risk of inflammation or complications.
  • Avoid Intense Physical Exercises: Avoid strenuous physical activities and intense exercises that may increase pressure in the treated area and compromise the integrity of the silk threads in the first weeks after the procedure.
  • Follow Skin Care Recommendations: Your doctor or aesthetic professional may recommend specific skin care products to promote healing and maintain skin health after treatment. Follow their directions carefully.
  • Keep Follow-up Appointments: Schedule follow-up appointments as recommended by your doctor or aesthetic professional to evaluate treatment progress and address any concerns or questions that may arise.
