Russian Current
What is it?
Russian current is an electrical stimulus used to produce a muscle contraction at the location where it is applied. This can improve muscle tone and sagging skin, in addition to stimulating blood and lymphatic circulation and cellular oxygenation. Aesthetically, it can be used to promote greater facial and body muscle tone, improve cellulite and wrinkles on the face and neck and body modeling. It can also be used to recover muscle tone postpartum and post-weight loss, as well as pre- and post-liposuction.
Indications
Indications for Russian current aesthetic treatment include muscle toning, reduction of flaccidity, improvement of blood and lymphatic circulation, postoperative recovery and muscle strengthening.
Contraindications
The use of electrical currents for muscle stimulation should be avoided in people with congestive heart disease and heart failure, people with a pacemaker, individuals with circulatory pathologies such as phlebitis, embolisms, varicose veins and thrombophlebitis, people with high or low blood pressure, infectious and inflammatory processes , fever, neoplasia, chronic kidney diseases, lung pathologies (such as emphysema), skin tumors, extensive skin diseases, fragility of blood vessels, some rheumatological diseases, metallic implants, tendon and ligament muscle injuries that prevent physiological muscle contraction.
How is it done?
The technique consists of an alternating medium frequency current of 2,500 Hz, applied as a series of separate shots, with the aim of producing intense muscle enhancement, reducing the patient’s sensory perception as much as possible. The current can only be applied for five to 20 minutes, the electrical current is depolarized and therefore does not present a risk of shock. There is only a risk of greater pain with treatment as the intensity of the current increases.
Frequency
10 to 20 sessions are required and can be done up to two or three times a week. Electrical stimuli are applied for between five and 20 minutes, longer than this can cause muscle fatigue. Maintenance after these sessions depends on the case and objective and must be guided by the professional.
Care
Care to be taken during Russian current treatment includes avoiding use in areas with injuries or inflammation, following the professional’s instructions regarding the intensity and duration of the treatment, staying hydrated and reporting any discomfort during the session.
After Russian current sessions, it is important to keep your skin clean and hydrated, avoid excessive exposure to the sun, practice moderate physical activity and follow a balanced diet to enhance the results of the treatment.
